Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) was established in 1971 with the specific purpose of the development of higher education with particular emphasis on post-graduate studies in applied sciences, technology, industry, and commerce. Its vision is to strive for excellence, be competitive in technical education on a global basis, and to focus on knowledge assimilation, generation, and dissemination. In its pursuit of international excellence, CUSAT has established academic links with various Universities in India and abroad. The main campus is located nearly 1km off NH 544 (Old NH47), in South Kalamassery.

Computer Applications is one of the thrust areas in Science and Technology. In appreciation of its growing importance in business and the industrial scenario, the University established the Department of Computer Applications (DCA) to facilitate research and human resources development in the subject. The Department offers Masters program in Computer Applications (M.C.A), M.Sc (CS) with specialization in soft computing and research program leading to Ph.D. / PDF.
