One-Week SERB Karyashala Workshop On
“Understanding machines: Explainable AI”
Organized by, Department of Computer Applications, CUSAT
'KARYASHALA' is aimed to provide hands-on experience to PG and Ph.D. students from universities, colleges, academic institutions in handling/troubleshooting high-end scientific instruments, software, and such skill development on themes required for research work. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is a set of processes and methods in the application of AI technology such that the humans can comprehend and trust the results and output created by machine learning models . While this is of interest to AI researchers studying a wide range of topics (e.g., agents, knowledge representation and reasoning, planning, recommender systems, reasoning with uncertainty, and robotics), it is of particular concern to machine learning (ML) researchers because, in many cases, practitioners wish to comprehend the AI system's decision-making prior to entrusting it with critical applications (e.g., automated driving, command and control, finance, medicine, healthcare). This workshop aims to share the knowledge, concept, and associated techniques employed in Explainable AI in the most simple way.
Objectives
The objectives of the program are:
- To understand needs, opportunities and challenges of Explainable AI.
- To implement interpretable Machine Learning Models using SHAP and LIME.
- To understand the explainability of Deep Learning Models.
- To analyse various adversarial machine learning techniques and their explainability.
Accomodation
The accommodation to only 25 selected participants(who need accomodation) will be provided by CUSAT through SERB funding support during the workshop. The travel and food will be borne by DCA, CUSAT only for 25 selected participants through SERB funding support.
Registration & Guidelines
- The course will be completely free of cost for the shortlisted participants.
- The participants will be limited to 25 candidates for this high end workshop (as per SERB norms).
- The program is mean to support motivated PG and PhD students who are having a strong willingness to get excellence in their scientific and engineering research pursuit, and do not have such high-end facilities in their own institution in the country.
- The applicants shall produce an endorsement letter from their Head of the Department indicating their enrolment with the institute for permitting to undergo training in the workshop if selected.
- Active participation in lectures and discussion/interaction sessions along with a basic level evaluation will be mandatory to produce the KARYASHALA Course Completion Certificate.
- As per SERB guidelines, mandatory anonymous course feedback shall be taken in the stipulated format.
- DCA, CUSAT reserves the right to devise a well-defined shortlisting criterion for selection of candidates based on the basic eligibility criteria laid out by SERB and as per formulated guidelines for this high end workshop.
